My Sick Little Guy

It's been a very long week around here.
Wyatt came down with what we thought was a cold last Wednesday evening and it progressively got worse through the rest of the week. By Sunday afternoon he was running a fever of 103.5 and had a nasty cough but I didn't take him into the doctor until Tuesday when he woke up again with another high fever for the 3rd day in a row.
The doctor diagnosed Wyatt with Para-influenza, Bronchitis, and a Double ear infection. He was given 2 shots to help with the ear infections and was put on 4 different antibiotics. We went back into the doctor today, Wednesday, and he was put on breathing treatments to clear up the bronchitis in his lungs. On Friday we have to go back onto the doctor to make sure he has made progress and that his ears are starting to clear up, if they are not looking better he will get 2 more shots and they will reevaluate the antibiotics he is on.
So, that is what I have been doing for the last week... taking care of my sick little guy! Tonight is the first night he has not had any fever and actually seemed like he was feeling a little better! Hopefully by the end of the week he will be back to normal Wyatt and we can finally get back to normal life, aka, not having the TV on 24/7.

Welcome to the World

Today at 7:51 pm Eisley Cyanne Theisen made her way into the world!
Mommy Alyssa, Daddy Eric, and New Big Brother Emmett are all overjoyed with this amazing new blessing!
Eisley weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and she is 20 and 1/2 inches long.
Her middle name 'Cyanne' is after her two grandmothers

My only sadness in all this is not being able to be in MN to meet my new niece in person!

Tis the season... sort of

I love Christmas... and every year I have to resist the urge to decorate before I really should. I totally know I am going to be that crazy old lady who puts Christmas lights out before Halloween and then leaves them up till after Easter. As soon as I see the first Christmas tree in a store or hear that first Christmas song, something in me just goes nuts and I want to decorate everything! I want my whole house to look, smell, and taste like Christmas.
This year has not been any different. I have been resisting the urge to decorate and I have not even let myself go into the Christmas aisles at the store because I know I am weak... but I did let Wyatt get a snowman window cling from the dollar section at target... I thought "Well, it's only a dollar and it's not really a Christmas decoration, it's more like a winter decoration."
I realize now that this was my way of cheating... I have a decoration up, as small as it may be, it is still a decoration. But every time I look at it it makes me smile and I know that soon my whole house will look like Christmas and that makes me happy! This whole season makes me happy... I love this season!

Wyatt or an Alien?

As I was getting ready for the day, Wyatt was keeping himself busy in the bathroom. I wasn't paying attention until I heard him playing in the trash can. I walked in and found this "little alien" stealing our tooth paste box!
I don't know what the obsession is with leaving q-tips in his ears... but whenever he gets into the q-tips he sticks them straight into his ears and there they stay.

A funny moment between siblings....

Last night my brother Andrew and I were throwing/ skipping rocks into the River by our house... I asked Andrew, "Can you throw a rock all the way across the river?" He said, "I don't know, probably." So he found a good rock and threw is effortlessly across the river where it landed safely on the ground. He then turned to me and asked, "Can you throw one across the river?" and I so confidently, seeing how easy it was for him, said "Yeah!" So, I found a good rock, wound up, and threw the rock as hard as I could... it landed 2 feet in front of me... in the mud... not even in the water! We were laughing so hard, I almost peed my pants! After like 5 minutes of laughing Andrew said, "Nope... I guess you can't!"

Pregnancy cravings... a heartfelt message from baby...

Being prego, I find myself hungry a lot... sometimes all I want is a simple apple (hmm... that actually sounds really good right now) and sometimes I want a huge juicy cheeseburger (that too sounds really good). But more than anything it seems to me that this baby loves... and mean LOVES... salsa (mmm... that sounds delicious)!
I crave anything and everything that I can dump salsa on. Even things that really shouldn't be pared with salsa, I put salsa on... like cooked carrots... they should not have salsa on them, but I did it, and you know what? I ate it! I find myself planning whole weeks worth of meals around salsa! Like for instance, this week all but one meal is a salsa meal! (The more I am writing about salsa, the more I want to eat something with salsa all over it!)
This is ridiculous... how can a baby the size of a peanut make me crave salsa so much? I guess it must just be a heartfelt message from baby... feed me salsa!

"I can't hear you"

Lately Wyatt has started making this face when he is ignoring me... it is so hard not to laugh at him when he does it because it is so funny!
So, one day I said, "Wyatt can you smile for the camera?" and
this is what I got!

So this is what they mean when they say...

Some people can fall asleep anywhere!

Wyatt's news...

He is going to be a Big Brother! I made this shirt for Wyatt so that we could tell everyone we were having a baby without actually saying anything... the faces people have made and the responses we have gotten when they read the shirt have been priceless!
Wyatt is still a little confused... I told him the baby was in my tummy and he kept looking down his shirt and saying "Where baby go?"
Needless to say, Wyatt, Chris and I are super excited...
Baby Hughes is due to arrive in early May!

Cousinly Love

Wyatt and Emmett were destined to be BFFs since before they were born.
And even though we live in Texas and Emmett lives in Minnesota and we don't get to see him much, Wyatt and Emmett are always best buds as soon as they get together!
From the very first time Wyatt and Emmett met they were buds...
they held hands and played on the floor together.
As they get older, they get along great (as you can see in this picture)! They "fight" like all boys do, but deep down inside they really love each other!
Wyatt and Emmett have always made the family smile!
They make for good entertainment and both really enjoy being the center of attention!"YY" and "Emm't" (as they call each other) like to give sweet hugs to each other.. and I pray they will always be BFFs!

"Healthy" French Onion Soup

I have found the most delicious French Onion Soup recipe...
AND it's healthy!!

Ingredients (Makes 1 serving):
1/2 Cup Raw Onion
1 Packet low sodium Beef Bouillon
1 Cup Water (I use 1 & 1/2)
1 Bay Leaf (optional)
1/4 tsp. Onion Powder
1/4 tsp. Lite Salt (or salt to taste with reg. salt)
6 Melba Toast Rounds (I like the whole wheat)
1/4 Cup Reduced Fat Mozzarella Cheese
Fresh Ground Pepper
Parsley
Non fat Cooking Spray

Directions:
1. Saute onions in non fat cooking spray.
2. Add beef bouillon to onions.
3. Add water, salt, pepper, bay leaf, and onion powder.
4. Bring to a boil and simmer 10-15 minutes (until desired softness of onions).
5. Remove bay leaf (dah!).
6. Place soup in bowl. Top with Melba toast and then cheese.
7. Microwave or broil till cheese is melted.
8. Sprinkle with parsley and enjoy!!!

It really is easy... it makes a perfect lunch for 1... or if you like, double it, triple it, make it work for you! Hope you enjoy!

Rainy day fun...

Rain, Rain, go away (but really stay because our grass needs you SO badly) come again another day (no, really, come back... we need rain!)
Since it was raining out... pretty much all day... Wyatt and I had our own fun adventures inside...
First, we found a lone "bug ball" (as Wyatt calls it) making it's way through our living room. At first Wyatt watched it crawl, but then I showed him that if you touch it, it turns into a ball. So, we spent a good 20-30 minutes playing with the "bug ball" until Wyatt dropped it and couldn't find it... mommy found it... but then I told him we had to throw the "bug ball" outside so he could go home. So, that was fun!

Then after lunch Wyatt was really bored... and maybe I was a little bored too... so we gathered up a bunch of blankets and tipped over the coffee table (which I am sure Wyatt will try to do all the time now) grabbed some chairs, and made our very first fort!! Wyatt was pretty much in awe of the fort... and I have to say... I was too! We did a really good job and it even stayed up when Colt (our dog) came charging through it!

Well, the rain has stopped, for a few minutes at least, Wyatt is all snugged up and asleep in his crib, the fort is still up in the living room (because I asked Wyatt if he wanted to show daddy and he said "yes") I am about to grab a cup of coffee, sit down, and enjoy the quietness and the sound of the rain!

Precious Moments...

This weekend we got to go visit Papa Bill, Chris' grandpa. He has Spinal Cancer so we cherish the moments we get to spend with him. We captured some precious moments of Wyatt with Papa Bill.

Wyatt wanted to know why Papa had that blue thing around his belly....

Wyatt sat with Papa for quite awhile. He wondered about his cool blue belt, laughed when Papa laughed, and showed us all his silly smile. We don't know how much longer we will get to have Papa Bill with us, but we will cherish the precious moments we do have together!

My baby is growing up...

Today while I was getting ready for the day I let Wyatt play up stairs in his room with Colt (our dog). He doesn't get to play up there all that often because when I watch Patrick (4 days a week) I put a gate up in front of the stairs to keep them on the main level. Anyways, he was up there playing and all of a sudden it was silent... when I went up there to sneak a peek (with camera in hand... just in case) I found him reading his favorite book 'Duck on a Bike' in his rocking chair. At that moment I just thought to myself "My baby is growing up! He is such a big boy!"

Who needs toys?

Who needs toys when you have a q-tip in your ear? Wyatt ran around for almost a half hour this morning with a q-tip in his ear... maybe not the smartest move on my part... but he was SO happy and cute! So, now I am wishing I would have saved us some money by buying him a box of q-tips instead of the thousands of toys we have in our living room... All Well!

Thankful

I am feeling very thankful for the blessings God has given me (and my family). These blessings come in a different forms, everything from having the money to pay for a Root Canal and Crown in cash, to having a friend I could call at the last minute to watch Wyatt while I spent 4 hours in the dentist chair, to finally feeling at home in a Church and for my friends!
I sometimes over look these blessings when I go through my days thinking about ALL the things I need to get done, but yesterday, I had 4 hours to just sit and think (and spit into a sucker tube) and I just felt thankful and blessed.
I have been struggling with feeling thankful and seeing all the blessings God has given me since I moved to Texas. I was more so feeling frustrated (or maybe even sinfully angry, for those of you who went to Bible Study with me) because I was so far away from my family and my friends. But yesterday I thought (for 4 hours) about how awesome it was that we had money to pay for this emergency Root Canal and about all the amazing people God has brought into my life, friends I can confide in, friends I can laugh with, friends I can ask my silly diapering questions to, and friends I can call up at the last minute to watch my child... and I realized how very Thankful I am for these friends no matter how new or old of friends they are. They are blessings!

Sweet boy...

Lately I have been finding Wyatt talking to his reflection in the oven door... last night I said, "give the baby a hug" and this is what he did. He's such a sweet boy!

My sweet husband...

Today after dinner I realized I had lost part of my tooth!!! I looked across the table into Chris' beautiful eyes and said "Um, I lost part of my tooth!" (thinking I would get some sympathy) and he so lovingly said "Well, you sure keep losing things that are costing me money!"
Isn't he sweet?

I'm such a dope...

Chris, Wyatt and I decided to go swimming in our pool... we were swimming having a good time and then I was like "I wanna use the noodle!" (for those of you who are totally clueless and have no idea what a noodle is... it's a long tube you float on in the water) So, I am in the process of climbing out the deep end so I can grab the noodle and jump back in, and Colt, our dog, starts licking my mouth YUCK! So, I try to push/smack him away from me so I can finish getting out of the pool, and he moves, because he is way faster than I am, and I smash my hand into the cement, jam 2 of my fingers and take a huge chunk of skin off the tip of my pointer! AUGH! I was so frustrated... at the dog, at the noodle for being so far away, but mostly at myself for over reacting and being such a dope!

An Ode to Amber's Phone - by Chris

You piece of junk
You two year commitment that I was only 4 months in to
Why did you have to leave at the worst time possible,
20 months before we qualified for a new phone
You are so selfish
Now where does this leave me? What am I supposed to do now?
Did you ever think of that?
No you didn't, you only thought of yourself
Now I have to buy a brand new phone at full cost
And what kind of phone can I afford for my lovely bride?
A piece of string attached to a tin can

At least it gets better reception than you did.

gdiapers

I started using gdiapers with Wyatt 4 days ago and I am a believer! He has had a nasty little diaper rash for over 2 months and in the 4 days since switching to cloth diapers the rash is completely gone! Just so you know... gdiapers are the way to go!

Ode to my Phone

This is an ode to my lost phone...

Phone I miss you! But I wish you well.
Phone I miss you, and I wish I was with you still.
Oh, phone why did you leave me?
Oh, phone where did you go?
Phone why did you have to fly off the roof of Connie's car into the road and now I can't find you anywhere??
Why phone Why?
Phone, phone, phone

Ok, so I lost my phone... incase you didn't get it!

iblog!

iblog.... I have come to the conclusion that nobody is somebody unless they have their own blog... thus I became somebody today when I created the Hughes Family blah blah blah blog! Yeah for me! iblog!
